For over 5,000 years, Polynesian seafarers navigated some of the world's most unpredictable waters using outrigger canoes. The design was deceptively simple -  twin stabilizing arms extending from the hull to prevent roll, redistribute weight, and keep the vessel steady no matter what the ocean threw at it.
